I’m Marilyn, or as my close friends and family affectionately call me, Skeeta—a nickname given by my dad. He compared me to a mosquito, always getting into things that I shouldn't have, and then on to the next before anyone even realized I was there—just like those darn mosquitoes. They bite you and they are gone about their business before you even notice that you have a bite.
Traveling abroad holds a special place in my heart, although I haven't traveled abroad since the pandemic. My adventures have taken me to South Africa (Cape Town, Durban, St. Lucia, Swaziland, and Joburg), Doha, Qatar, Colombia (Medellin, Cartagena, and Bogota), UAE (Dubai & Abu Dhabi), Japan (Tokyo & Kyoto), and Montego Bay, Jamaica Mon 😊, each destination leaving its mark on me.
With over 20 years in Information Technology, I've seen firsthand how technology can both challenge and empower businesses. My role extended beyond System Administration to collaborating with department heads to analyze business needs, uncovering trends and patterns to improve operations, and designing solutions ranging from process improvements to new technologies or systems implementation. I was the bridge between Business Stakeholders and Offshore developers, ensuring business requirements were translated into technical specifications, and I also played a key role in managing changes, including planning, quality assurance testing, training users, and monitoring outcomes to ensure objectives were met.
Participating in social groups, I encountered many small business owners facing similar challenges: how to get started, stand out, attract new customers, and more. I had an epiphany: United, we could harness the power of negotiation to access a diverse array of software, educational resources and other tools at a fraction of the cost. I set out to do just that. As a solo founder, I've navigated tight budgets, steep learning curves, and nights spent awake working with Offshore Developers due to the time difference. Each challenge taught me about perseverance, adaptability, and the importance of a supportive community.
My Vision
My vision for Synergy Virtual Hub is simple: to create a platform where small businesses can access the tools and support they need to grow without breaking the bank. This mission is personal; every decision is guided by the purpose of making a real difference, providing value, and resources at an affordable price. As the platform evolves, I'll be cautious when I'm contacted with solicitations about adding services. They must offer real value, proven through a trial group of our members, with measurable goals, and be cost-effective. United, the power is in our hands.
